South Metro Bikeway

Just a note to anyone interested in expressing support of the proposed South Metro Bikeway:

This proposed bikeway would link Bloomington, Richfield and Minneapolis by way of a South Minneapolis corridor. The project embraces various aspects of the Complete Streets philosophy which have, so far, been synonomous with the goals of Cedar Avenue United.

I have a basic letter layout containing correct contact info and project name. If anyone is interested in sending one please e-mail me at cedartraffic@gmail.com for more information. The letter would need to be mailed by the end of next week in order to reach TLC by the time they entertain proposals.

If you have any questions please feel free to leave a comment and I will do my best to answer them quickly. Thanks,
Will

Can you give us some sort of idea what options are being considered? Bike lanes, signed bike route, bike boulevard, off-street path? Whether or not I support it depends heavily on what options are available. Or are we supporting a study to determine what sort of facility it will be?

Here is language from the proposal:
The cities of Minneapolis, Richfield, Bloomington and Hennepin County are in ongoing discussions to identify preferred alignment(s) and design elements for this important connection. The concept of linking these cities also enjoys enthusiastic support from elected officials in Minneapolis, Bloomington, Richfield and Hennepin County. Funding via the NMTP program will provide much needed resources to continue the momentum to complete planning efforts and move into implementation on this project.

Take from that what you will.

Of course we are trying to make sure that the corridor uses Cedar in some capacity. There are discussions of Bloomington Ave as well. I would like to explore the option of using Cedar south to East 60th, to the Crosstown Sevice Road and across on Bloomington to Richfield. Just a thought, I'm sure we will explore many options.

Thanks!
